Historic Sites & Area Attractions :: Miami & South Beach
Art Deco District Tours :: Conducted by local historians and architects, provide an introduction to Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival and the Miami Beach Architectural Historic District.
Barnacle State Historic Park :: The home designed and built by Ralph Middleton Munroe, a yacht designer, born in New York City in 1851. It is the oldest home in Miami-Dade County in its original location.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park :: Part of a large barrier island ecosystem. Lighthouse watchroom, atop 109 steps, enjoys a view of the beach, Miami and Biscayne Bay.
Biscayne Nature Center :: North end of Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. Programs include: Fossil Reef Tidal Pool, Seagrass Adventure, Hammock Hike and Beach Combing.
Biscayne National Underwater Park :: Submerged archeological sites include an array of shipwrecks and other representations of maritime casualties.
Coral Castle :: Originally called “Rock Gate Park." Over 1,100 tons of coral rock carved and sculpted by Edward Leedskalnin from 1923-1951, without any outside assistance or large machinery. National Register of Historic Places.
Dolphin Cove :: Set on a five-acre natural lagoon, offering a range of marine learning programs including swimming with dolphins. Also offers guided kayak, snorkel, crocodile, and eco tours, as well as scuba instruction.
Everglades Alligator Farm :: Working alligator farm home to about 3,000 alligators of all sizes. Alligator shows and airboat rides.
Everglades National Park :: The largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the US. Wildlife includes rare and endangered species, such as the American crocodile, Florida panther, and West Indian manatee. An International Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site, and a Wetland of International Importance.
Miami Seaquarium :: A family-oriented marine-life park open to the public 365 days a year. Rescue and rehabilitation efforts of the park include distressed manatees, sea turtles, dolphins and whales.
Miccosukee Indian Village :: Demonstrations and exhibits of woodcarving, patchwork, beadwork, basket weaving and doll making. Also, Everglades airboat tours.
Monkey Jungle :: Home to nearly 400 primates, most running free on a 30 acre reserve. It is one of the few protected habitats for endangered primates in the United States and the only one that the general public can explore.
Parrot Jungle Island :: Miami Beach is home for 1,100 tropical birds, 2,000 varieties of plants and flowers. Also, nature displays, Bengal tigers, orangutans, Malaysian bear cats, Arctic wolves, Komodo dragons, alligator snapping turtles and the largest captive crocodile in North America.
Venetian Pool :: Formed from a coral rock quarry in 1923, this 820,000 gallon pool is fed with cool spring water daily, and features two waterfalls, coral caves and grottos. National Register of Historic Places.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens :: A romantic Italian villa on Biscayne Bay. Originally an estate of 180 acres, designed to resemble a typical Italian villa, self-sufficient, with a dairy, poultry house, mule stable, greenhouse, and staff residences.
World and U.S. Chess Hall of Fame :: Chess time tunnel, Hall of Fame induction wall, giant chess set, gift shop, the table that Bobby Fischer won the World Champioship on, and many other artifacts of chess history.
