A Big Wave Hits South Beach

July 5, 2000--(T-Directfolio)
The warmth of Italy in the heart of South Beach Miami-sound too good to be true. It's not-The Wave Hotel has come ashore at 350 Ocean Drive. Owner Allesandro Ferretti and Executive Director Maurizio Cavalieri have transported to South Beach a long tradition of Italian hospitality, reflected in the detailed but unobtrusive attention to guests' requirements.

"Our hotel is a destination of choice for the sophisticated traveler who shares our concept of well-being: to be comfortable in a friendly environment where there is no need to show off," said Ferretti.

The Wave's 66 rooms, enhanced by ultra-sleek and yet deeply comfortable furniture designed by Romi Ferretti and manufactured by the firm Saporiti Italia are a perfect blend of the elegance of the Art Deco movement and cutting-edge contemporary luxury.

Each guestroom offers the latest amenities, including Fisher CD stereo systems, Touch lamps, bathrobes, data ports, electronic locks, mini bars, satellite TVs, modem compatible phones and in-room safes. Each room also has had a Wave Machine installed. Developed by HoMedics, Inc., the machine delivers guests a choice of six soothing sounds to induce better sleep, such as waves gently rolling ashore, a rain shower or a pulsating heart beat, among others. At The Wave, there are two suites, 39 king bedded rooms and 25 rooms with two full sized beds. Rooms range in price (April 2000-October 2000) from $155 to $325, and in the high season from $175 to $425.

Opening after an extensive renovation, this 1941 Art Deco gem was once known as The Lord Balfour, named in honor of the distinguished British Prime Minister who authored the famous Balfour Declaration that supported the creation in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people. The property is located one block from the Atlantic Ocean, and also onsite is The Wave Restaurant, which is open from 8:00 a.m. until midnight daily. It features al fresco dining on the veranda with authentic Italian cuisine and regional favorites prepared with the freshest ingredients. The restaurant features a full bar and wine selection.

Guests are steps away from the Famed Lincoln Road shopping area, the Miami Beach Convention Center, sandy white beaches, trendy nightspots and world famous restaurants. This area, known as SoFi (South of Fifth Street), is a slim strip of land, which measures ¾ of a mile by a ½ mile, is experiencing a renaissance. Popping up are new offices, retail areas, condominiums, hotels, cultural activity sites and restaurants, all within a 25-block radius.

For those looking for a quick escape: The Port of Miami is 10 minutes away; Miami International Airport is 20 minutes away; and the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport is 40 minutes away.
