The Wave Hotel: A Modern Boutique Hotel in a Historic Miami Art Deco Building
A past winner of the Barbara Baer Capitman Award for the "Best of the Best" of Miami Beach's architectural historic restorations, The Wave Hotel on Ocean Drive allows travelers to enjoy modern comforts and big-city thrills in a time-honored beachfront community.
The Wave is a South Beach landmark. It opened its doors in 1940 as the Lord Balfour Hotel, long before this stretch of Miami Beach was known as South Beach but already a lively location known for its restaurants and clubs. Back then, the Lord Balfour Hotel promised "ping pong, shuffleboard, card parties" as part of its enticing features, and invited you to "the land of sunshine."
Today, Miami Beach's sun-filled days still make history, while The Wave Hotel expands upon the Lord Balfour's offerings as it retains the luster of those classic times. Set in South Beach's SoFi or South of Fifth Street District, The Wave is one of many Art Deco structures built in the 1920s, 30s and early 40s that have been painstakingly renovated to reflect its original graces, conserving the inspiration of another era while showcasing the many influences for which the Art Deco movement is known.
The Wave Hotel, while part of larger-than-life South Beach, is located on its SoFi District, which still holds on to a neighborhood feel. Its ideal location and embracing hospitality allows travelers to take in the best of Miami Beach and then retreat to comforting, delightful surroundings.
